It's a cross between a cake and brownie and, well, mochi. These hojicha brochi (brownie mochi) are slightly sweet, and full of roasted tea flavour. If you haven't had hojicha before, it's a green tea that has been carefully roasted, creating in it a deep, smoky flavour that pairs well in desserts and sweets. Taking this into consideration, I decided to search for a mochi brownie recipe that used mochiko so that the brownies would have a chewy mochi texture.

I cook with mochiko a lot—Mochiko is a sweet rice flour you can find in Japanese markets or online. Anytime I can get that sweet mochi chew, I try to add it to my bakes and the chewy texture is the perfect compliment to brownies. (Brownie + mochi = brochi).
